Filmmaking College

Filmmaking at Cerritos College
Most of my video students are planning to go to college for video production, so it is always interesting to them to see work from college students in their field. Of course, my students are quick to critique, and find fault in what they see, but in some instances, much of their work honestly IS better than the pieces that they viewed. This podcast channel has video podcasts of a variety of student projects, including a promo for the television production class offered at Cerritos College in California.

ASL vlog

JoeyBaerASL VLOG
I had no idea there was such a thing as VLOGs before this assignment. I am witnessing history in the making for the deaf community. This vlog site described a vlogging/blogging conference that occurred in washington, DC last weekend to discuss this new technology phenominon. Discussion focused around responsibility among the pioneers for setting standards for the deaf community while encouraging more women to vlog/blog without fear of what others might think. They even had their own Oscars: they voted for "best....". Joey Baer's vlog site won Best VLOG site and Best Political site.
Another blog/vlog site I like has is open to multiple bloggers/vloggers within the deaf community. DeafRead
I like the fact that they offer a bloggers tab and a vloggers tab. I can use this site with my deaf students who use ASL and my hard of hearing students who might prefer printed english. They need role models. Also there are vlogs to learn ASL.

American Writer

The podcast found here, at AmericanWriters.com, focuses on "mini-lessons" given in a variety of topics related to writing. What I like about the series of casts is that they are straightforward and easy to understand. I cannot, however, see listening to one in its entirety because I think I would lose my class. I can see play snippets of various topics.

Blogs

Blogging is a great way to share information across the web. The blog I viewed discussed why woodwind instruments are called woodwind instruments and how they fit in to their specific category. I like the fact that the blog had many useful bits of information, explaining why the saxophone, flute, and clarinet belong to the woodwind family. The blog provided a number of links to go to that helped me learn more about the content of the blog. I disliked some of the information because it was incorrect. The blog did not discuss the actual reason why a saxophone is a woodwind instrument. The reason simply, because it uses a reed to produce the sound. Other than that one error, it is a great way to self-educate.

Topic 2: Web 2.0 for the Classroom Mathgrad

mathgrad Is a website of podcast created with the intention of relieving math anxiety. Math problems used in everyday life situations to better understand the world. I like the authors suggestions of 2 classes working on the same assignment then meeting on line to discuss how they each tackled the problem. All the better if someone else is doing the grunt work of creating the problems. I am all for any project that creates interest which will lead to learning.
