Podcasts in the Elementary School

This site brings us to Long Elementary School in Dearborn, Michigan. The school is extremely active in publishing student podcasts which incorporate multi curriculum areas. This web site demonstrates the students integration of technology with literature and writing composition. The three interactive podcast stories are composed by students across the grade levels, demonstrating collaborative learning in the project. The students are involved creatively in all the aspects of producing the podcasts through illustrating and narrating the stories. The final products represent vodcasts with the inclusion of audio and video components.

That was truly very good. I especially loved the children's illustrations and narrations of the story. The idea works, and they seem to have found a way around the Acceptable Use Policy. We have to be so careful in public education. A slip-up or access to wrongful content, though clearly not an educator's intent, could surely spell disaster for the career of an educator.
I did something similar for the first time last year. Working with 2nd graders, I had them create e-books. I used PowerPoint for their images and narrations. We incorporated language arts and art. They wrote sentences, then illustrated each sentence. I loaded them up onto PowerPoint, then they narrated their stories using a basic computer microphone. Thanks for the tip on the site.
The template and design set up is nice, too. Simple, straightforward, yet very effective for elementary school settings.
